Description

This model is from my first package of models of the Colombian Air Force. In this case, it is the legendary P-47 Thunderbolt fighter plane, which in 1946, the Colombian Air Force acquired 35 of these aircraft.
It was the first plane in the Air Force that had an oxygen mask and helmet for the pilot with a pressurized cabin, due to the great heights it could reach and its enormous speeds for ascent and descent.
From the beginning, they were assigned to the Palanquero Air Base in Puerto Salgar, Cundinamarca, from where they carried out many outstanding performances, especially in support of the Army in its fight against armed groups.
The power and speed of the P-47 allowed it to participate in many air shows over the main cities of Colombia in close formation, together with the Shooting Star F-80 and Silver Star T-33 planes, both jet-powered.
Undoubtedly, the P-47 was a great plane and in all the scenarios where it performed, it stood out for its great characteristics, firepower and versatility. In Colombia it did not operate so brilliantly, perhaps due to the complexity of its maintenance or to an erroneous operation, which produced seven fatal accidents between 1950 and 1955, earning it the nickname of “flying coffin”. These circumstances, added to other operational circumstances, forced the Colombian Air Force to take the decision to withdraw it from service in 1947, after 12 years of operation.

I hope you like it
This package includes two 1-page PDF files of the 1/100 scale model.
