1/48 Cornelius XFG-1 First prototype eXperimental Fuel-tank Glider Paper Model

Description

The Cornelius XFG-1 Fuel-Tank Glider was and interesting concept aerodynamically and functionally. Aerodynamically it was a non-powered glider with forward swept wings and no horizontal tail plane. The incidence of the wings could be changed on the ground between 3 degrees and 7 degrees.

The purpose of the experimental aircraft included in-flight refueling of the mother aircraft (transport or bomber) to top off the tanks before entering enemy airspace (thus extending the range of missions). The glider would be cut loose and land for re-use. Another idea was to fly the gliders unmanned and serve as an expendable drop tank. Yet another concept was to use the gliders to deliver fuel to troops on the ground behind enemy lines. The glider pilot would join up with the infantry.

This is a downloadable kit for paper model aircraft. This model is designed to be printed on 110# index [298 gsm cardstock]
