Description
332nd FG Tuskegee Airmen Republic P-47 Thunderbolt P-47D-20-RE in Olive Drab finish
In April 1944, the 332nd began converting from P-39s to P-47s and received their first Thunderbolts from the 325th Fighter group.
Some Thunderbolts were stripped of all paint when transferred from the 325th, but many retained their original Olive Drab over Gray paint scheme.
At least one of these P-47s had its 325th “checker” tail artwork painted over with red paint. This may have been the first “Red Tail” aircraft for the Tuskegee squadrons.
