The E-series of the Me-109 was the main Luftwaffe fighter at the beginning of World War Two and remained the main service type until the F model began to replace it in 1941. Standard armament was two 7.92mm machine guns and two 20mm cannon in the wings. Some later E models were equipped with a centerline rack for a bomb or a drop tank. Other advanced features included leading edge slats, electrically-operated variable-pitch propeller, and pilot armor. Luftwaffe pilots and ground crew called it the Emil, after the model designation.
This paper model Me-109E-3 wears the markings of the Flugwaffe (Swiss Air Force) Fliegerkompanie 9, J-350, as it appeared in Avenches, Switzerland, 1941.
