1/50 C-87 (B24D) Liberator Long Range Transport Paper Model

Description

The need for more long range high altitude Transport aircraft led to the creation of the C-87 Liberator Express. The B24D Liberator was stripped of all armaments and gun turrets, and a floor added within the Bomb Bay area. Side fuselage windows and removeable Seats were fitted in this area, for 16 passengers. A large rear Cargo door was also added, as well as a nose door replacing the forward canopy and nose turret. [A luxury transport version (the C-87A) was fitted with plusher seats and sleeping berths.]

The C-87s were not very popular with their crews, who complained about all sorts of hazards, particularly with the fuel system, with the engines, and with the cockpit accessories. The C-87 was notorious for problems with leaking fuel tanks, and midair fires were an ever-present danger. The C-87 also had some dangerous icing properties, which made it a very risky plane to fly over “the Hump”. There were few tears shed when the Army’s C-87s were withdrawn from service and replaced by more reliable Douglas C-54 Skymasters.

This kit is a derivative of Marek’s 1/50 scale Consolidated B-24 model and features many new upgrades and modifications, including detailed repainting, weather texturing and photo-realistic effects.

The AT22 B24 B24A B24D C87 LB30 TB24D assembled model has a wingspan of about 26″.
