1/50 AT-22 C-87 (B24D) Liberator Trainer Variant Paper Model

Description

The need for more long range high altitude Transport aircraft led to the creation of the C-87 Liberator Express. The B24D Liberator was stripped of all armaments and gun turrets, and a floor added within the Bomb Bay area. Side fuselage windows and removeable Seats were fitted in this area, for 16 passengers. A large rear Cargo door was also added, as well as a nose door replacing the forward canopy and nose turret. [A luxury transport version (the C-87A) was fitted with plusher seats and sleeping berths.]

Almost 300 C-87 aircraft were produced alongside B-24Ds, from 1942 to 1944. This included C-87A conversions, as well as AT-22 Flight Engineer training aircraft. While most were operated by the USAAF, many were lend/leased to the RAF for use by Transport Command.
Only five AT-22 training aircraft were produced and distributed to various US air fields, equipped with six Flight Engineer stations within the modified fuselage for the instruction of air engineers in operating conditions and under full power…essentially for such aircraft as the Boeing B-29 and the Consolidated Vultee B-32, which are the first large combat aircraft in the USAAF to have separate completely equipped engineer’s stations.

This kit is a derivative of Marek’s 1/50 scale Consolidated B-24 model and features many new upgrades and modifications, including detailed repainting, weather texturing and photo-realistic effects.

The AT22 B24 B24A B24D C87 LB30 TB24D assembled model has a wingspan of about 26″.
Contains approx. 300 parts
14 pages includes cover page, assembly Instructions and diagrams
