M65 Atomic Cannon – “Atomic Annie”
The M65 Atomic Cannon, widely known as “Atomic Annie,” is a heavy artillery piece developed by the United States, capable of firing nuclear projectiles. It was designed and built in the early 1950s at the dawn of the Cold War. The cannon was deployed in West Germany, South Korea, and Okinawa, Japan, between 1955 and 1962.
The M65 was transported by two specially designed tractors, each with independent steering—one at the front and one at the rear. For firing, the cannon was lowered and stabilized directly on the ground.
