Description

This is a model of the historic aircraft: ‘The City of Washington‘. Along with her sister ship ‘The City of the Angels‘ they flew around the earth from August 9, 1947 to December 10, 1947. They were the first light planes to accomplish this feat. ‘The City of Washington’ is preserved and can be seen at the Smithsonian Institution, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington D.C. Models of both aircraft have been released in time for the 75th anniversary of their historic flight by Design Group Alpha.

First built in 1946, the PA-12 Super Cruiser is the direct offspring of the J-3 Cub but with greatly enhanced range, speed, and payload. 3,760 were built in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania ending production in 1948.
