Description

Globe Swift

The Globe Swift, a low-wing 2-seat touring aircraft with retractable landing gear was originally designed in 1940 but due to the war actual prototype construction and subsequent production was delayed until after the war. Initially, an 85hp power plant was provided, but this was changed in later production versions into a 125 hp engine. Total production exceeded 1200 units.

Paper Model Details: 30 parts on two pages, with diagram instructions. Integral tabs, layered prop, boxed wheels. Degree of Difficulty: 2/5

With the profile of the Globe Swift resembling a Curtiss P-40, the paint scheme on this model is intended to honor James F. (Stocky) Edwards who flew P-40 Kittyhawks for the RCAF in North Africa during WWII.

The autobiography Kittyhawk Pilot: Wing Cdr. J.F. (Stocky) Edwards written in collaboration with J.P.A. Michel Lavigne is recommended reading for those wishing to learn about Stocky’s wartime experiences and the desert air war.

Vintage Wings of Canada operates a P-40N finished in the colour scheme of Stocky Edwards P-40: http://www.vintagewings.ca/en-ca/aircraft/combataircraft.aspx
