First built in 1947, the DHC-2 Beaver is thought by many to be the ultimate Bushplane. 1692 were built in Downsview, Ontario ending production in 1967. Many Beavers are still earning their keep in the rugged north. The turbine powered prototype Mark III first flew in 1965. The DeHavilland Canada factory built 60  Mk.III Beavers powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 turbo-prop engines before production ceased. The Turbo Beavers had more power, greater speed, and larger load carrying capacity than the earlier Mk.I and Mk.II radial engined aircraft.
