The Su-27SKM single-seat multirole fighter is a modification of the Su-27SK export aircraft.
The aircraft is designed to destroy air targets in free space and against the background of the ground, as well as for actions against ground and surface targets using controlled and unguided types of aircraft weapons, day and night, in simple and difficult weather conditions.
The main features of the Su-27SKM aircraft are:
– modified weapon control system with enhanced capabilities for hitting land and sea chains;
– new display system;
– improved navigation and radio communication system;
– more advanced equipment of the on-board defense complex;
– a wide range of air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons, placed on 10 suspension points;
– in-flight refueling system.
The Su-27SKM aircraft’s weapons control system provides detection, tracking and destruction of air, ground and sea targets by means of aviation weapons in all weather conditions, day and night. It allows the use of an expanded range of aircraft weapons (ASP) compared to the Su-27SK-a guided missile with an active radar homing head (GOS) of the RVV-AE class, guided high-precision air-to-surface ASP with various guidance systems. The Su-27SKM SUV includes two main subsystems: the air-to-air weapons control system, and the air-to-surface weapons control system.
The basis of the information and control field of the aircraft cabin is made up of two color multifunctional indicators (MFI), a multifunctional remote control indicator with a push-button frame and an indicator on the background of the windshield, on which all the necessary amount of sighting, aerobatic and navigation information, as well as information about the operation of the aircraft’s onboard systems, is displayed in graphic and digital form. Along with the IFI, the dashboard of the cab is also equipped with traditional electromechanical indicators, which are mainly assigned duplicate functions.
The radar station (radar) of the Su-27SKM aircraft in the “air-to-air” mode provides: search for air targets; identification of the nationality of the detected targets; attack of targets with short – and medium-range missiles with various guidance systems; search, capture and tracking of a visually visible target in close maneuver combat; in the “air-to-surface” mode: all-weather detection, measurement of coordinates of radio-contrast ground and surface targets; issuance of coordinates of surface targets to ensure the use of the X-31A anti-ship missile.
The optical-location station (OLS), which is a combination of a survey-tracking heat direction finder and a laser rangefinder-designator, is used to track an air target by its thermal radiation, measure the range of a laser beam to an air and ground target, and can also be used for laser illumination of a ground target when using air-to-surface guided missiles with a semi-active laser GOS.
