42-8461 Republic P-47D-5-RE Thunderbolt

This “razorback” P47 was one of four Thunderbolts flown by Lt. Col. Robert S. Johnson with the 8th Air Force.  Johnson was the first ETO USAAF pilot to surpass Eddie Rickenbacker’s record of 26 victories.  He scored the most of his total 27 victories in “Lucky”, although the aircraft was lost in a crash in March of 1944 (being flown by a different pilot).
