Description

THIS KIT IS A REISSUE OF A PREVIOUS ECARDMODELS.COM LISTING

The E-series of the Me-109 was the main Luftwaffe fighter at the beginning of World War Two and remained the main service type until the F model began to replace it in 1941. Standard armament was two 7.92mm machine guns and two 20mm cannon in the wings. Some later E models were equipped with a centerline rack for a bomb or a drop tank. Other advanced features included leading edge slats, electrically-operated variable-pitch propeller, and pilot armor. Luftwaffe pilots and ground crew called it the Emil, after the model designation.

This paper model Me-109E-3 represents serial number 35 (W. Nr. 2480) of Escadrila 58, Grupul 7 vanatoare, as it appeared in Stalingrad, late 1942. Six victory bars have been painted forward of the cockpit. The ‘Donald Duck’ emblem was applied only to this Group’s Emils. This aircraft was often flown by Locotenent aviator Alexandru Serbanescu and it was lost at Stalingrad at the end of 1942.

Paper Model Details: Over 250 parts on four pages, with 13 construction diagrams and eight wire templates. Fuselage formers and joining strips; wing spars with airfoil formers. Layered wheels, rolled landing gear legs, boxed wheel wells. Duo-fold prop blades. Full cockpit; patterns for transparent canopy parts. Degree of Difficulty: 4/5.
