The E-series of the Me-109 was the main Luftwaffe fighter at the beginning of World War Two and remained the main service type until the F model began to replace it in 1941. Standard armament was two 7.92mm machine guns and two 20mm cannon in the wings. Some later E models were equipped with a centerline rack for a bomb or a drop tank. Other advanced features included leading edge slats, electrically-operated variable-pitch propeller, and pilot armor. Luftwaffe pilots and ground crew called it the Emil, after the model designation.

This paper model “Emil” depicts the aircraft originally of W.Nr. 3326 of 2./JG 51, captured in France on September 28, 1939, and wears French markings and a fuselage number 9.
