Description

In spring of 1945 couple of Heinkel He-162 jet fighter were found in the Viena area by the 212 Guards IAP ( ex 438 IAP) . This ex-Luftwaffe base  was later handed over to the US Forces as it was allocated in the American  occupation sector. On 11 July 1946 the He-162 and the indigenous Yak-15  and Mig-9 jet fighters were demonstrated to the Minister of Aircraft production. The Mig-9 crashed during the demonstration . The accident considerably delayed the development of Soviet jet aircraft. No comments of the He-162  performance compared to that of Soviet jet fighters are given in the Soviet  publications. The model represents the He-162 (red 02) that was tested at the Letnoissledovatelskiy institut (Flight Test Institute)
